CoNAC's Academy

Our Academy is where we introduce junior athletes to our club and to our sport. A thriving junior section has always been at the core of City of Norwich AC's success and our Academy is where it all begins. Please contact Rob Kinge on 07719 815374 or Yvonne Newton on 07719 815374 for details of how to get involved.

Training sessions for our young athletes are based on the Sportshall and Athletics 365 models using equipment specially designed to replicate the normal athletic disciplnes of running, jmping and throwing.

The activities that the athletes experience as beginners are designed to encourage their physical and mental development in an enjoyable and controlled competitive environment giving due regard to each individual's age, physical development and physiological maturity.

One of the main aims of the training and activity programme is to ensure that everyone enjoys the time they spend with us in a safe environment. We encourage them to attend regular sessions throughout the year in order that the continuing programme of training and competition will enable them to mature in a caring, structured and healthy environment.

We are also keen to involve parents / guardians at all stages during the time the athletes are with us. We therefore encourage those who bring young athletes to come into the training sessions to observe and to discuss the training that the athletes experience.

  • Short Term Aims - to introduce the beginner athlete to a planned, structured and organized programme of athletics. The programme enables the athlete to train in a safe and enjoyable environment under the leadership of a Level 4 coach and directed by qualified (Level 1, 2, 3 or 4) coaches who are registered within the CoNAC coaching organization. The programme covers movement skills, mobility and basic athletic discipline.
  • Medium Term Aims - to develop a programme of athlete-centred learning to establish basic core skills and movement patterns in all athletic disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. The initial programme focuses on participation in Sportshall type athletics planned in a well-organized, safe and enjoyable environment. The programme includes technical skills, drills for training and competition, track discipline and competition rules.
  • Long Term Aims - to enable all athletes who join the Academy to progress through a planned coaching and competition programme of technical athletic development to achieve their long term aims and objectives. The programme involves cooperation with specific technical event coaches within CoNAC and other venues as appropriate. The programme also includes access to appropriate competitions at club, county, regional and national level relevant to the needs of individual athletes.

Our Academy meets every Wednesday evening - fom 5.30pm to 6.30pm for those aged 8-12 and from 6.30pm to 8pm for those aged 13+.  From October to March we use the indoor facilities at City Academy Norwich (formerly known as Earlham High School) while from April to September we use the all-weather track at the Sportspark.

Please contact Rob Kinge on 07719 815374 or Yvonne Newton on 07719 815374 for further information and details of how to get involved. We look forward to meeting you soon.
