The motto of the national Sportshall programme is 'fun to fulfilment' and this is the aim of City of Norwich AC (CoNAC). We encourage youngsters from the age of 8 to 14 to have a go at the wide range of events that make up the Sportshall programme. The reversaboards make for exciting racing, whilst the long and triple jumps mats aid technique development. Other events such as the speed bounce, vertical jump, soft javelins and steppers combine to make the programme very varied. All in all Sportshall athletics is an excellent introduction to nearly all outdoor athletic events - in a fun, competitive environment.
For the 20010-11 Sportshall season our training sessions take place on Saturday mornings at Taverham High School's superb indoor facilities. We are working with the West Norwich & Dereham Schools Sports Partnership to offer local youngsters the opportunity to train with our own athletes on a regular basis to develop their athletic skills. Saturday mornings are split into two sessions lasting 75 minutes each: 9.30am - 10.45am for ages 8 to 11 and 10.45am - 12 noon for ages 12 to 14. Registration for the earlier session starts at 9.15am.
Dates for the 2010-11 training sessions at Taverham High School are:
All participants must complete a registration form before their first session - CoNAC members should click here and non-coNAC members should click here. We welcome newcomers to turn up on the day to see if they like Sportshall, but each child must be registered before they will be allowed entry. The price per session on the door is £1.50 for CoNAC members and £2.50 for non-members. Appropriate sports footwear and suitable clothing must be worn.
While under no obligation to do so, if you are a non-CoNAC member and you enjoy these sessions then the logical next step is to join CoNAC - this will give you a £1 reduction off the cost of your Saturday sessions at Taverham High School and also extensive opportunities to represent the club in the Norfolk Sportshall Athletics League and at many other exciting and fun events. Full details are available on request at the Saturday sessions.
CoNAC members can pre-register and block book sessions by completing the CoNAC pre-registration offer and sending it with payment to the address on the form itself by no later than 18 September 2010.
CoNAC is a member of the Norfolk Sportshall Athletics League which is the body responsible for organising the county league competitions as well as selecting U11, U13 and U15 squads to represent the Norfolk at regional and national events (where age limits and NSAL selection criteria apply). You must be a member of CoNAC to compete in League matches and CoNAC membership to the end of March 2011 costs just £15. Full details are available on request at the Saturday sessions.
